French youngster Elliot Benchetrit showed off his skills at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown
The Ultimate Tennis Showdown has seen some incredible matches in recent weeks and plays too.
Elliot Benchetrit was also on show at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown recently as he battle against the more experienced David Goffin.
Goffin already had played earlier on 28 June but was up against the 21-year-old Benchetrit. The Belgian didn’t show any fatigue and defeated his younger opponent 3-1.
The Ultimate Tennis Showdown has some different rules compared to a normal tennis match, with quarters being played out and not having the traditional point-based games and sets.
It was Benchetrit who picked up the opening quarter 16-14. The Frenchman was the underdog in this match and came up with some great offence too.
He pulled off a tweener shot too but this was a little different. Instead of chasing the ball over his head, he ran towards the net and played a deft short which caught Goffin out.
While winning the first quarter was great, it was all that the match wrote for the 21-year-old.
Goffin won the next three quarters, 20-12, 14-10 and 20-8 to stay in the match. The Belgian was to play Dustin Brown, however, Brown picked up an injury and couldn’t play.
Benchetrit had defeated Lucas Pouille recently and another win would have been great for the youngster.
However, Goffin’s win keeps his slim hopes alive of making it to the next round. Many top stars are participating in the tournament which gives unique a fresh twist.
Dominic Thiem might be the biggest names on the Ultimate Tennis Showdown roster. The Austrian made news while playing in the Adria Tour.
He won the first leg but the second leg saw several officials and players test positive for Covid-19. Novak Djokovic, the organiser of the Adria Tour, also caught the virus and is recovering.
