John Isner is one of the tallest players on the ATP circuit and he was caught off guard in the 2021 Miami Open by an umbrella
American tennis star John Isner is one of the tallest players on the ATP circuit. The 35-year-old stands at 2.08m but there are stars who are taller than him, like Ivo Karlovic.
Nevertheless, Isner’s height can be a boon and a bane. The American’s reach is possibly one of the best in the ATP but with height comes other problems.
Getting down for drop shots or covering the court in a hurry can be problematic. There are other issues that tall people face too, and that is something Isner had to deal with at the 2021 Miami Open.
The American was playing Roberto Bautista Agut in the round of 16 at the Miami Open. Isner was going back to his chair but he didn’t see an umbrella in his way.
He might have thought that he would just miss the sharp end of the umbrella. However, his height came in the way and there was a hilarious poke at the American.
Isner wasn’t hurt but he saw the funny side of things. The American had a wry smile as he asked the cameraman if this moment was captured.
Isner also has a sense of humour as he shared this tweet and brought up the result from the match too:
The match between the American and the Spaniard went the distance with Agut getting the win.
This was a tough clash as the first set was won by Agut 6-3 before Isner came charging back and made it one-all by winning the second set 6-4.
The final set went to a tie break with Agut getting the 7-6 (9-7) win. He moved onto the quarterfinal but things don’t get easier for the Spaniard.
His next opponent is the #1 ranked Daniil Medvedev. The Russian overcame American star defeated Frances Tiafoe with ease.
Medvedev won 6-4 and 6-4, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top between them.
