Home » Sports News » Watch: Novak Djokovic trains Capoeira with Marcelo Santos

The cloud over Novak Djokovic’s US Open participation stills remains intact.

The Serbian legend has not stopped practicing. In fact, he is learning a lethal Brazilian martial art form known as Capoeira. It will certainly help in enhancing his already-spectacular game.

After winning the Wimbledon Championships last month, Djokovic closed in on Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 Grand Slams titles and is now just one shy of equalling the Spaniard. However, he might be forced to watch Nadal double the lead at Flushing Meadows this year as the 7-time Grand Slam champion’s unvaccinated status could prevent him from traveling to the U.S.

Anyway, Djokovic doesn’t seem to be too perturbed as he recently posted a video on Instagram training Capoeira with Marcelo Santos.

Capoeira combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. The acrobatic martial art form was created by enslaved Africans in Brazil. Their following generations developed the form at the beginning of the 16th century.

Coach Goran Ivanisevic heaps praise on Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal

Goran Ivanisevic is the coach of Novak Djokovic and has seen the legendary player win all Grand Slam events except the US Open during the association.

The Croatian coach told Croatian news agency Hina that he had predicted long ago that Djokovic and Nadal would win on more occasions than Roger Federer. His latest prediction was that the two stalwarts Djokovic and Nadal will continue to win if they can keep injuries at bay.

“Even before I became Djokovic’s coach, I was already saying that Novak and Nadal would end up winning more than Federer. If they are healthy, they have no limits. I think they will continue to win.”
