There have been multiple instances of Roger Federer hitting four aces in a row in an ATP tour match – this one against Rafael Nadal is one such glorious instance
A video clip of Roger Federer hitting four consecutive aces against Novak Djokovic has surfaced on the internet. The clip is from the 2007 Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai when the two stars faced each other in the semi-final stage. Federer eventually won the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
Federer served four aces in a row after being down in the game 0-30 against the Spaniard. The Swiss superstar eventually went on to win the tournament by defeating another Spaniard David Ferrer in the final. However, his semi-final encounter against Nadal is more vividly remembered thanks to his four back-to-back aces.
The Tennis Masters Cup title win was Roger Federer’s 8th title of the year, and his 53rd overall. It was his 4th year-end championships title, and his 2nd consecutive one.
Fans react to the old clip of Roger Federer hitting four back-to-back aces against Rafael Nadal
The clip is a good throwback moment for Federer fans. Here is how some of the fans reacted to the clip on Twitter.
“I still feel his serve is so underrated. His serve is one of the best the game has ever seen. The angles he was able to hit were ridiculous”, wrote a Federer fan.
“Roger Federer might be the best server ever, he hit 4 Aces in row vs. Both best returner Rafa & Nole in Shanghai”, wrote another fan.
“one of the greatest serves in history…I would love to know what percentage of total points were won by either aces, service winners, or a 1-2 combination”, read another tweet.
“I wouldn’t say Federer’s serve was underrated, but it definitely wasn’t recognized as a major strength of his game as much as it should.Roger was a master of the 40-second game. His toss + placement + pace + ability to read the returner’s position was among the best I’ve seen”, tweeted another fan.
