Andy Murray and Fabio Fognini have faced each other on eight occasions. The head-to-head scoreline stands at 4-4.
The first meeting between the two of them took place in Canada in 2007 when Fabio Fognini won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Their last meeting came at the Shanghai Masters in 2019 where Fognini defeated Murray 7-6, 2-6, 7-6. In the third set, an incident happened that irked the British legend. The score was poised at 5-5 and both players had won one point each in that set. Murray hit a volley to make it 30-15 in his favor. However, he wasn’t happy with how Fognini allegedly shouted in the middle of the point when he was about to hit the volley.
Murray, later on, was seen complaining to the umpire about Fognini’s antics. The Italian was trying to justify himself but Murray was having none of it and asked him to “shut up”.
The 35-year-old has won 20 matches so far out of the 33 he has played in 2022. However, he has reached two finals thus far.
He reached the finals in Sydney before losing to Aslan Karatsev in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. At the Stuttgart Open, Murray once again came close to winning a title, but a determined Matteo Berrettini got the better of the veteran.
Prior to the Stuttgart Open, Murray reached the semi-final stage of the Surbiton Trophy Open where he lost to Denis Kudla. At the recently concluded Cincinnati Masters, Murray defeated another experienced campaigner Stan Wawrinka in the round of 64. In the next match, he lost to the talented Cameron Norrie 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.
