Fans on Twitter were quick to react to the picture of one of the most popular tennis players in the world, travelling on public transport.

“She is reading Tuesdays with Morrie. A masterpiece” wrote a fan, who recognised the book she was reading.

“She’s awesome. Doesn’t deserve the flack/abuse she often gets”, tweeted another fan.

“The guy next to her was watching Wimbledon mens final” – joked a fan, referring to a man who sitting beside Raducanu, who apparently dozed off, implying that the Wimbledon final was really boring.

Trolls weren’t far away either. “she’s also relatable in the sense that we can barely win a tennis match either”, tweeted a fan, clearly taking a dig at Raducanu.

“While the haters cannot move on with their day today because Emma is in the top ten!” – another fan came up with an apt reply for the trolls.

Emma Raducanu broke into the Top 10 of the WTA rankings earlier this week

Earlier this week, Emma Raducanu became just the fifth British woman in the Open era to reach the top 10 of world rankings.

She has joined an exclusive club of British tennis stars featuring Virginia Wade, Sue Barker, Jo Durie and Johanna Konta in claiming a place in the WTA top 10. The British teenager climbs into world top 10 thanks to Wimbledon鈥檚 ban on Russian and Belarusian players. The new rankings were confirmed on Monday morning following Wimbledon, where no ranking points were on offer this year.

Raducanu benefitted from the lack of ranking points after her second-round exit at SW19. As it stands, the Brit is 10th and largely protected at the moment because of her 2000 points at the US Open last year.
