Hubert Hurkacz ended Nick Kyrgios’ dream run in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open. The Australian tennis pro will lock horns with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the round of 64 of the Western & Southern Open.
The 27-year-old reached his maiden Grand Slam final in July at the Wimbledon Champions before losing to the legendary Novak Djokovic. Kyrgios followed it up with a win in the Citi Open having lost just one set throughout the competition.
He carried his rich vein of form into the Canadian Open. He defeated the likes of Sebastian Baez, Daniil Medvedev, and Alex de Minaur before suffering his first defeat in 10 matches against Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals.
The young Spaniard’s best result this season came at the Monte-Carlo Masters where he progressed to the final before suffering defeat against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
At the Canadian Open, the 23-year-old was ousted in the first round by David Schwartzman. He suffered a similar fate at last year’s Western & Southern Open as he lost to Hubert Hurkacz. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has won 18 matches and lost 19 this season.
Nick Kyrgios and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina have not faced each other before. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline stands at 0-0.
Nick Kyrgios will go into the match as the favorite. We expect him to win in straight sets.
Prediction: Nick Kyrgios
