Karen Moorhouse currently holds the position of CEO at the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), assuming this role in December 2022 and officially overseeing operations starting from February 2023. She possesses a remarkable drive and ambition, backed by an extensive background in public sector procurement encompassing areas such as procurement, category management, contract management, commercialism, and business change.
Karen has accumulated extensive expertise spanning the entire procurement process, which has empowered her to assume various roles, forge robust business connections, identify opportunities for enhancement and efficiency, and consistently advance her professional experience.
She has demonstrated the ability to overcome obstacles and secure essential support from key stakeholders while serving as a Category Manager.
Additionally, her contributions were notable in the implementation of a novel commercial contract management function during her tenure at the City of London. Furthermore, as the Head of Procurement for Sport England, she played a pivotal role in the evolution of the procurement department.
Karen Moorhouse transitioned to her role at the ITIA earlier this year, following a remarkable 14-year tenure at the Rugby Football League in the United Kingdom, where she held the position of Chief Regulatory Officer. Her involvement extended to serving as a non-executive director on the Board of the highly acclaimed Rugby League World Cup, which was hosted in the northern part of England earlier in the same year. Her appointment marked the replacement of Jonny Gray, who departed from the organization in September 2022.
The ITIA was established with the responsibility of overseeing both the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program and, commencing on January 1, 2022, the Tennis Anti-Doping Program.
This organization came into being through a collaborative effort involving the International Governing Bodies (IGBs) governing professional tennis, which comprise the ITF, ATP, WTA, and the esteemed Grand Slam tournaments, including the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. It’s crucial to emphasize that the ITIA operates independently from the IGBs and possesses the authority to independently make decisions regarding investigations and prosecutions, making it a distinctive entity in the global sports arena.
In addition to its responsibilities in prevention, education, and drug testing, the ITIA holds a crucial position in collecting intelligence and investigating issues such as competition manipulation, notably the troubling issue of match-fixing within tennis. The ITIA is vested with the power to impose fines, administer sanctions, and, in more severe cases, bar players, umpires, and other tennis officials from participating in officially sanctioned tournaments.
