Who won Wimbledon 2021?

As the attention of the tennis community moves on to the Wimbledon, starting on 27 June – let us take a look at the winners from the previous edition

Here are all the winners from Wimbledon 2021 over five different categories:

1. Men’s Singles: The men’s singles crown was won by Novak Djokovic. The World No.1 defeated Italy’s Matteo Berrettini 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the final. It was the Serbian’s sixth Wimbledon title.

2. Women’s Singles: Australia’s Ashleigh Barty won the women’s crown in Wimbledon 2021. Like in the men’s category, it was the top seed who reigned supreme. Barty defeated Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 to seal her maiden Wimbledon Championship title.

3. Men’s Doubles: The Croatian pair of Mate Pevic and Nikola Mektic won the men’s doubles title. The top seeded pair defeated the pairing of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 7-5 in the final.

4. Women’s Doubles: The women’s doubles category witnessed a relatively unknown pair emerge as winners. Su-Wei and Elise Mertens defeated the experienced pairing of Elena Vesnina and Veronika Kudermetova 3-6, 7-5, 9-7 in the final.

5. Mixed Doubles: In the mixed doubles category, Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk emerged victorious over the all-British pairing of Joe Salisbury and Harriet Dart. The seventh seeds won the final in straight sets 6-2, 7-6.

Wimbledon 2022 is set to start on June 27

Wimbledon 2022 is scheduled to begin later this month on 27th June and continue till 10th July. The tournament is presently wrapped in a blanket of controversy – with multiple top stars unsure of their participation in the tournament.

Wimbledon has banned Russian and Belarusian players from participating in the tournament and as a result, the ATP and the WTA have stripped the historic event of ranking points. It will be interesting to see how many top players still choose to play the iconic Grand Slam.
