Emma Raducanu currently sits at No. 10 in the WTA rankings. The 2021 US Open champion entered the top 10 on 11 July 2022.
This is her best ranking till now. The 19-year-old shot to fame after a remarkable win at the US Open last year. She stormed into the main draw after a dominant performance in the qualifiers. The dominance did not cease in the main rounds as well. She came out victorious in just her second Grand Slam to become a household name.
There’s a chance that the Bromley-based tennis star could drop to No. 97 in the world rankings after a lackluster last 12 months following the US Open triumph.
Raducanu will have her task cut out as she looks to defend her ranking points at Flushing Meadows. This year’s US Open competition gets underway on August 29. Raducanu has been training hard at the IMG Academy in Florida.
Raducanu currently has 2717 ranking points; a substantial part of it was earned thanks to her stupendous performance at US Open last year. Tennis’ rankings system works for a 12-month period and the youngster could drop 2040 points before entering the Grand Slam which gave her unprecedented success. Losing 2040 points will leave her with just 667 ranking points.
Emma Raducanu failed to collect too many ranking points post-US Open 2022. That could come back to haunt her as she might also find herself out of the top 100.
Raducanu reached the quarter-finals of the ITF $100,000 event in Pennsylvania in August 2021 and the final of the WTA125 event in Chicago, the following week.
If she does not manage to defend those points, she could slide further down to No. 123. This would mean that the talented player would have to play more lower-tier events to accumulate points.
