The talented Coco Gauff sustained an ankle injury during her first-round match against Maria Bouzkova. The 18-year-old pulled out when the score was at 7-5, 1-0 in favor of Bouzkova.
The 2022 French Open finalist consulted doctors after spraining her ankle. Fans were worried as the US Open is less than a couple of weeks away. Gauff, however, gave a crucial update on the extent of her injury as she said that it’s just a minor sprain and she should recover soon. She also thanked her fans and well-wishers for reaching out and asking about
“Hi everyone! I just wanted to give an update since I have gotten tons of really nice messages of concern. I promise I am ok!” Coco Gauff wrote in a message shared on Twitter.
“The world is not ending lol! I have been told it is most likely a really minor sprain so everything should be healed very soon. Thank you to everyone for reaching out and I’ll see you soon,” she added.
The tennis world will breathe a huge sigh of relief after getting this positive piece of news from the doubles world No. 1. Gauff’s injury means that she will withdraw from the doubles event at the Cincinnati Masters as well. She was scheduled to team up with Jessica Pegula and face the team of Jessie Aney and Ingrid Neel in the round of 16 in Ohio.
The duo of Pegula and Gauff won the doubles event at the Canadian Open after defeating Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez in the final.
Marie Bouzkova pulls out of the Cincinnati Masters
The professional tennis player from the Czech Republic – Marie Bouzkova was scheduled to face Alison Riske-Amritraj in the round of 32 of the ongoing Cincinnati Masters.
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old suffered a right trunk injury and this has forced her to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters.
Bouzkova progressed from the qualifiers after comprehensively defeating Aleksandra Krunic and Donna Vekic in straight sets.
