Nick Kyrgios is set to take on fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round of Wimbledon 2022 – preview of the clash

Nick Kyrgios has been in impressive touch in the tournament. As usual, the Australian has been in the spotlight both on and off the court. Kyrgios began his campaign with a thrilling win in five sets against local favourite Paul Jubb. In round 2, Kyrgios caused an upset over 26th seed Filip Krajinovic – winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.

Nick Kyrgios had earlier skipped the French Open to focus more on the grass-court season and the match against Tsitsipas will certainly be a test of his preparation. Kyrgios’ best performance so far this year came at the Indian Wells Masters – the Australian reached the quarter-finals but eventually lost to Rafael Nadal.

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ form coming into the match

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been tipped as one of the early favourites in men’s singles. The Greek started his campaign in a comprehensive fashion with a comfortable win over Alexander Ritschard before registering a straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 win against Australia’s Jordan Thompson.

Tsitsipas has had a good year so far and would definitely like make a mark at the Wimbledon. Earlier this year, the Greek ace successfully defended his Monte-Carlo Masters title against Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He won two sets 6-3, 7-6, to capture his second ATP Masters 1000 title. Tsitsipas is presently ranked World No.6 and has never gone beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon. He will be looking to better his record this year and go all the way.

Head to head and Predictions

Tsitsipas and Kyrgios have faced each other four times before on the ATP tour. Surprisingly, the lower-ranked Kyrgios has a clear advantage and leads 3-1 on head to head. Their previous meeting came at the Halle Open last month with Kyrgios emerging victorious.

It’s clearly a difficult match to predict – we expect an intense encounter with Tsitsipas eventually coming out on top in five sets.
