Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego will challenge no.2 seed, Rafael Nadal, in the third round of Wimbledon 2022
Rafael Nadal has brushed off injury concerns and made a fine start to the tournament. Nadal started his campaign with a comfortable win over Francisco Cerundolo in the first round. The Spaniard then went on to register a comprehensive win against Ricardas Berankis to set up a clash against 27th seed, Lorenzo Sonego.
Nadal has had a dream run so far in 2022. He has been quite close to invincible and has clinched both the Grand Slams so far in 2022 – the Australian Open and a historic 14th Roland Garros title in Paris, taking his Grand Slam count to 22. Nadal is certainly one of the favourites to clinch the title at Wimbledon 2022.
Lorenzo Sonego’s form coming into the match
Lorenzo Sonego has taken commendable strides on the ATP Calendar this year. The Italian started his campaign with a hard-fought win in five sets against America’s Denis Kudla. In round two, he cruised to a comfortable straight sets 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over France’s Hugo Gaston to set up a clash against Nadal.
The Italian is seeded No.27 in the tournament and is certainly capable of pulling off a surprise, despite face an uphill task against Nadal.
