Novak Djokovic will defend his crown at this year’s Wimbledon. The champion of the women’s event at Wimbledon 2021, Ashleigh Barty will not be seen in action as she announced her shocking retirement earlier this year at the age of just 25.
The Wimbledon draw was held this Friday and the official Twitter handle of the most prestigious Grand Slam predicted some possible matches that we may get to see as the event progresses.
As for Novak Djokovic, he will face Soon-woo Kwon in the first round. Wimbledon has predicted that the Serbian might face Thanasi Kokkinakis, Miomir Kecmanovic, and Reilly Opelka, in the second, third, and fourth rounds respectively.
If the six-time Wimbledon champion can get past all of them, he might set up a clash with Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-final. A win for Djokovic against the Spaniard will most likely mean that he will face 2022 French Open finalist Casper Ruud in the semis. Eventually, after passing all those hurdles, we might see a repeat of the 2022 French Open quarter-final between Rafael Nadal and Djokovic in the finals.
Predicted road to the final for Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek impressed everyone with her sparkling semi-final run at the 2022 Australian Open. She took confidence from her performance in Australia and won her second French Open title earlier in the month.
The Polish player will face Croatian Jana Fett in the first round. Wimbledon has predicted a clash with Danka Kovinic in the second round. Yulia Putintseva might be Swiatek’s opponent in the third round. As for round four, Swiatek might square off against former world No. 2 Barbora Krejcikova.
Moving on to the quarter-final, we could see Jessica Pegula face Iga Swiatek. If the world No. 1 manages to win the quarters, she could go head-to-head with world No. 4 Paula Badosa in the semis.
Eventually, if Swiatek reaches the finals of Wimbledon for the first time, we could see her face the Estonian Anett Kontaveit.
