The Winston-Salem Open is reaching its business end and we have some interesting matches to look forward to. One among them is the round of 16 encounter between Dominik Thiem and Jack Draper.
After Borna Coric’s comeback story, we might see the 2020 US Open champion get back into form after returning from injury in March. Thiem has reached two quarterfinals and a semifinal in the last three tournaments he has played. He came into the Winston-Salem Open following a quarterfinal run at the Austrian Open where he was ousted by Yannick Hanfmann.
In the Winston-Salem Open, Thiem defeated Jeffrey John Wolf in the first match 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 7-6 (8-6). In the round of 32, he faced the top seed, Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian won the first set but was trailing the second 2-4 when he had to retire as he was feeling unwell.
The 20-year-old reached his first ATP 1000 quarterfinal at the Canadian Open earlier this month. He has won 12 matches and lost 7 in 2022.
The 13th seed received a bye in the first round. In the round of 32, he defeated the veteran Fabio Fognini 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. The youngster will be high on confidence as he prepares to take on another experienced campaigner in Dominic Thiem.
Dominic Thiem and Jack Draper have not faced each other as yet. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Jack Draper to win in three sets.
