The 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem will face Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 32 of the ongoing Winston-Salem Open.
The Austrian returned to the court in March after being sidelined because of a wrist injury and other complications. He has won 8 out of the 17 matches he has played in 2022.
The 28-year-old lost the first set of his first-round match against Jeffrey John Wolf but came back strongly in the next two to eventually win the match 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 7-6 (8-6). Thiem hit 13 aces and had a win percentage of 75 on his first serve. He would look to use his serves to pick up a lot of points once again in the next round.
The Bulgarian has not won a couple of matches on the trot in the last 5 tournaments he has played. He begins his campaign at the Winston-Salem Open on the back of a disappointing outing at the Cincinnati Masters where he was ousted in the round of 64 by Denis Shapovalov.
Dimitrov has reached a couple of semifinals this year. The first one came at Melbourne while the other one came at the Monte-Carlo Masters. However, his performances on hard courts have not been very promising.
These two players have faced each other on six occasions. The Bulgarian leads the head-to-head scoreline 4-2.
Dimitrov will have a slight edge going into the match.
Prediction: Grigor Dimitrov to win in three sets.
