American actress and former MMA star – Gina Carano has blasted USTA for not taking a stand against the “criminal mandate” that has barred Novak Djokovic from taking part in this year’s US Open competition.
As per the US Government’s guidelines, foreign travelers must be fully vaccinated to enter the country. While USTA decided players wouldn’t have to be vaccinated to take part in the tournament, they left it to the government to take the final call regarding the compulsory vaccination status of foreign travelers.
The legendary Novak Djokovic, who has been firm on his stance on COVID-19 vaccination, pulled out of the tournament as his unvaccinated status wouldn’t have allowed him to feature at Flushing Meadows. This comes as a huge setback for the USTA as Djokovic brings with him a huge star power. The former World No. 1 misses his second Grand Slam event of the year owing to his unvaccinated status.
Gina Carano lashes out at USTA
40-year-old Gina Carano posted a tweet where she wrote that if all tennis players had boycotted the US Open until Djokovic was allowed to play, it could have caused a change.
“If all the tennis players boycotted the @usopen until @DjokerNole was permitted to play it would cause change. The silence of our colleagues, countrymen, media, family & friends is what hurts the most. THIS ALL FALLS APART WHEN WE STAND TOGETHER. When will you have had enough?”
Replying to this tweet, she lashed out at USTA for its lack of intent in trying to have Novak Djokovic play the last major event of the year.
“The @usopen should’ve taken a stand by opposing this criminal mandate. But that would be way too much to ask from an organization who only intends on virtue signaling they represent the USA & human rights.. We see clearly what you represent now. Enjoy how you will be remembered.”
