No.5 seed Carlos Alcaraz is set to take on 10th seed Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon 2022

Carlos Alcaraz is gearing up for his high-voltage encounter against Italy’s Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. The Spaniard took to Twitter to share a glimpse of his preparations. Alcaraz is high on confidence after consecutive straight-set wins in his previous two tournament rounds.

Alcaraz has been in fine touch on the grass courts of the All England Tennis Club. Making only his second main-draw appearance at SW19, the Spanish teenager was taken the distance by Jan-Lennard Struff in the opening round. However, Alcaraz made quick work of Tallon Griekspoor to reach the third round for the first time at the grasscourt major.

Following his win over Otte on Friday, Alcaraz has become the youngest player in 11 years to make the second week at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz had played just two matches on grass – going 1-1 – before arriving at Wimbledon this year. He made it to the second round last year before losing to Daniil Medvedev. A year later, though, Alcaraz is growing in confidence on a surface that poses unique challenges.

Fans on Twitter react to Carlos Alcaraz training at home

While most players prefer outdoor practice and physical session at the gym during a tournament, Alcaraz opted for a light session at home. Fans shared their take on his decision and conveyed their unconditional support on Twitter.

“Smart. Clearly COVID is swimming in players facilities. With no masking or daily testing protocols it only takes 1 player, coach, trainer, agent who thinks ‘my allergies’ & goes about their business”, wrote a fan, who feels Alcaraz did the right thing to avoid crowd outside especially because Covid is on the surge once again.

Another fan, expressed his support for the Spaniard – “Carlos! I started following tennis again because I discovered you!”, he wrote.

“I have watched tennis since the mid 1970s.. Borg and Evert are my favourites. I think you will replace Borg on my list”, wrote another fan, who evidently rates Alcaraz very high.
