Ash Barty announced her retirement from Tennis at the age of 25
Australian tennis star, Ash Barty just announced her retirement from tennis. She is aged just 25 and was at the prime of her career. Barty is ranked no.1 by WTA in singles action. And also the only Australian to ever be ranked this high after Evonne Goolagong Cawley.
Barty shook the tennis world with her announcement. She took to social media to announce her retirement from the game. In an interview with Casey Dellacqua, she said, “Today is difficult and filled with emotion for me as I announce my retirement from tennis.”
She further continued writing, ” I wasn’t sure how to share this news with you so I asked my good friend @caseydellacqua to help me. I am so thankful for everything this sport has given me and leave feeling proud and fulfilled. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, I’ll always be grateful for the lifelong memories that we created together 🤍.”
She wrote the following while also posting a video of her interview where she declared her retirement. She also revealed that more news would follow from her press conference tomorrow.
Twitter reacts as the World no.1 retires
The world of Twitter was in a state of shock, as Barty announced her retirement. She was a loved player and also a fan-favorite. With such records at such a young age, she was destined for wonders. But what she announced today was not expected and came out of nowhere.
Many people dug out a video from 2019, where she had stated about playing for three or four more years. Which went calculated comes to 2022.
Her decision has stunned the world after just winning the Australian Open. The tennis star had previously once retired in her career but that was in cricket. She later found her love in tennis and become the No.1 here.
She stated in her interview, “know I’ve done this (retired) before but in a very different feeling and I am so grateful to everything that tennis has given me. It’s given me all of my dreams, plus more, but I know that the time is right now for me to step away and chase other dreams and to put the racquets down.” In her interview, she also stated that she had fulfilled her dream of winning the Wimbledon and also the Australian Open.
Earlier in March, she pulled out of the Miami open 2022 owing to recovery issues but if not, she would have been out seeking her third straight title.
