Aryna Sabalenka will take on top seed Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals of the WTA Finals in Texas
World No.1 Iga Swiatek is in sublime form and is coming into this match on the back of three consecutive straight-set victories. The Polish star started her campaign with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over eighth seed Daria Kasatkina. She followed it up with another comprehensive win against Caroline Garcia. In her previous encounter, she beat fourth seed Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-0 to qualify for the semis.
Swiatek has had an incredible 2022 and winning the WTA Finals would be the cherry on the cake. She has already won two Grand Slam titles this season – the French Open and the US Open. Swiatek would aim to round off the year on a perfect note by winning this tournament.
Aryna Sabalenka’s form coming into the match
Sabalenka has been impressive so far in this season-ending finale. She began her campaign with a thrilling three-set win over No.2 seed Ons Jabeur. She got the better of another higher seed in the form of fifth seed Maria Sakkari in her next match. In her previous match, the Belarusian defeated third seed Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-5 to set up a clash against Swiatek.
The semi-final happens to be a repeat of the US Open semis when both players played a cracker of a match. Sabalenka had won the first set but Swiatek came back strong not only to win the match but also went on to clinch the title. Sabalenka will be hoping that things work out in her favour this time around.
