WTA Rankings: Vera Zvonareva is the only player in the top 500 who has played in the 1990s

The updated WTA rankings are out after the first Grand Slam of the year and there are plenty of interesting movements. One noteworthy mention is the fact that Vera Zvonareva (436) is now the only player in the top 500 of women’s singles, who has played on the professional tour in the 1990s. Meanwhile, Venus Williams (667) has interestingly got more WTA titles (49) than ranking points (43).

Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva, who made her professional debut in 1999, is currently ranked World No. 436 in the WTA women’s singles category. Zvonareva is active on the WTA tour and is currently playing doubles at the ongoing Qatar Open. The 38-year-old Russian is a former World No. 2 and a five-time Grand Slam Champion in doubles and mixed doubles. She has 24 WTA titles in her bag till date.

What are the notable movements in the latest WTA rankings?

There have been a number of significant movements in the latest WTA rankings. Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka has now moved up to her career-best World No. 2 ranking while runners-up Elena Rybakina has entered the WTA Top 10 in singles for the first time in her career. Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek extended her stay at No.1 to 44 consecutive weeks and she is ahead of the second-placed Sabalenka by 4,385 points.

The top 100 of the latest WTA rankings include four teenagers: Coco Gauff (No.6), Linda Fruhvirtova (No.51), Linda Noskova (No.56) and Diana Shnaider (No.94). Gauff, the highest-ranked teenager, has been ranked in the Top 10 for 21 consecutive weeks and rises one spot to No.6 after reaching the Australian Open fourth round. Fruhvirtova, the youngest in the Top 100 at 17 years old has jumped 31 spots to a career-high, No.51.
