Maria Sakkari lost to Martina Trevison in a gruelling encounter – a match where she was left wondering if she had a PlayStation.

Maria Sakkari and Trevisan faced each other in the Ken Rosewall Arena on Friday. Both women gave it their all in what was a crucial tie in the women’s singles rubber of Greece vs Italy United Cup semifinal.

Current Italian No. 1 Martina Trevisan managed to get the better of Sakkari in three sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7. The former was also able to frustrate her opponent by producing a sensational defensive display. With the score at 6-5 in favor of Trevisan in the final set, Sakkari went to her bench. She was told to play more aggressively and try to target the line. A visibly infuriated Sakkari shouted at her bench, saying that she does not have a PlayStation where she can play line when she wishes.

“F**k’s sake how can I play line? You think I have a Playstation when I’m playing and I can play line? F**k.”

How do things stand at the moment in the Greece versus Italy encounter?

Greece would have hoped for a win for Maria Sakkari in her singles bout. With her loss, they fell into a really deep hole.

After Sakkari’s loss, Stefanos Sakellaridis had the responsibility of upsetting Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. It was a one-sided affair as the world No. 23 got the win in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

Stefanos Tsitsipas had the responsibility to keep Greece in the contest. He faced Matteo Berrettini on Saturday in the second men’s singles encounter. A loss for Tsitsipas would have given Italy an unassailable lead in the tie. However, that didn’t happen as the world No. 4 rallied from a set down to beat Berrettini and make the score 2-1.

Now, Valentini Grammatikopoulou has to defeat Lucia Bronzetti in another must-win tie for Greece. If this happens, the semis will be decided in a mixed doubles encounter.
