Tallon Griekspoor – Early beginnings

Tallon’s father Ron Griekspoor was a sports enthusiast and a motocross driver. Tallon’s mother Monique is also reportedly a sports enthusiast. His twin elder brothers Scott Griekspoor and Kevin Griekspoor were tennis players too. Scott and Kevin have retired from the game and they peaked at No. 205 and 655 respectively, on the ATP ranking list.

Tallon started playing with Scott and Kevin when he was five years old. When he was 17, Tallon moved to Belgium to train with Kristof Vliegen, the former Top-30 player. At the age of 19, Tallon became a pro. In 2017, he made his ATP main draw debut as a wildcard at the 2017 Rotterdam Open in the singles draw against Gilles Muller.

In 2018, at the same tournament, he defeated Grand Slam champion and 5th Wawrinka of Switzerland in three sets to reach the second round as a wildcard. A year later, Griekspoor defeated the World No.11 and 2nd seed Karen Khachanov in the first round again as a wildcard.

Tallon would have become a motocross driver like his father before following the footsteps of his elder brothers and venturing into the tennis world.

Griekspoor qualified for the first time in the main singles draw of a Grand Slam competition at the 2020 Australian Open. He was ousted in the first round by Taylor Fritz.

In 2021, Griekspoor won two Challengers tour titles at the 2021 Prague Open and The 2021 Slovak Open. This helped him reach No. 120 in the rankings on June 14, 2021. His first Wimbledon appearance was also in 2021 when he once again got eliminated in the first round by Alexander Zverev.

Griekspoor reached the second round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in the 2021 US Open. However, further progress was halted by the legendary Novak Djokovic in the second round. He reached the second round a couple of more times during the 2022 Australian Open and most recently the 2022 French Open.

Griekspoor reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of 54 on February 28, 2022. His career-high ATP doubles ranking is World No. 287 achieved on August 1, 2016. He has won a record eight Challenger titles in one season, which is more than any other player on the ATP Challenger tour and he also became the first player to win five straight titles in history.

Griekspoor is currently ranked 61 in singles competition. He has an overall win-loss record of 34-42.
