Kathryn Newton featured alongside Djokovic, Bale and other stars at the Ryder Cup exhibition match – here’s everything you need to know
Novak Djokovic and Gareth Bale showcased their talent as they contributed significantly to Team Monty’s remarkable 7-4 triumph against Team Pavin during the celebrity all-star Ryder Cup match held in Rome. Djokovic, who recently secured his 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open, temporarily put aside his tennis racket to participate in a special event at the Marco Simone Golf Club, building excitement for the upcoming biennial Europe vs. USA competition scheduled for Friday.
Novak Djokovic teamed up with G4D Tour (golf for the disabled) star Kirk Popert, securing a 3-1 victory over F1 driver Carlos Sainz and Italian G4D golfer Tommaso Perrino in one of three matches played at the course.
Djokovic initially appeared on the first tee with a tennis racket before switching to a driver, impressively driving the green from an advanced tee at the par-four 16th hole, earning him the shot of the day accolade. Gareth Bale partnered with team captain Colin Montgomerie in a seven-hole event, triumphing 2-1 against Corey Pavin and former professional footballer Andriy Shevchenko. In another match, content creator Garett Hilbert and surfer Leonardo Firoavanti played to a 2-2 draw with Hollywood actress Kathryn Newton and former NFL star Victor Cruz.
Kathryn Newton has gained recognition for her prominent roles in various TV series and films. She notably played Louise Brooks in the CBS comedy series “Gary Unmarried” from 2008 to 2010, Abigail Carlson in the HBO mystery drama series “Big Little Lies” from 2017 to 2019, and Allie Pressman in the Netflix teen drama series “The Society” in 2019.
Additionally, she portrayed the older versions of Claire Novak in The CW’s dark fantasy series “Supernatural” from 2014 to 2018 and Joanie Clark in the AMC period drama series “Halt and Catch Fire” from 2016 to 2017. The 26-year-old actress has not only made a name for herself in the entertainment industry but is also an accomplished golfer. During her time at Notre Dame High School, she played a significant role in helping her team secure three championships.
While she had the opportunity to play golf for USC, she chose to focus on building an impressive acting portfolio, including notable projects like “Big Little Lies,” “Ben Is Back,” “Blockers,” and “Freaky.” Despite her busy schedule, Newton still finds time to indulge her passion for golf.
