7th seed Wang Xinyu locks horns with Mirjam Bjorklund in the round of 16 of the 2023 Thailand Open on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old did not start the year on a good note as she crashed out of the ASB Classic in the first round after losing to Sofia Kenin. Xinyu showed her talent in Hobart International as she made it to the quarterfinals after progressing from the qualifiers.

In the Australian Open, she got the better of Storm Sanders in the first round. She lost to 10th seed Madison Keys in the following round. Xinyu began her campaign in Thailand with a comfortable win against Swiss qualifier Joanne Zuger in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. The Chinese youngster won 40 points while receiving and had a win percentage of 71 on the first serve.

Mirjam Bjorklund

The Swedish youngster began 2023 by playing in an ITF event in Australia. Bjorklund defeated Arianne Hartono in the first round but lost to Hailey Baptiste in the second round. Bjorklund lost in the second round of qualifying to Nao Hibino.

Mirjam Bjorklund has started strongly in the Thailand Open. She got the better of Lanlana Tararudee in the round of 32 in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Bjorklund managed to convert 7 out of the 9 break points in the match. She will hope to build on the good start.
