7th seed Xinyu Wang squares off against the experienced Heather Watson in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Thailand Open on Friday.

After crashing out of the Australian Open in the second round, Xinyu Wang has managed to reach the quarterfinals of a tournament for the second time this season.

The Chinese youngster has been quite impressive in the two matches she has played in the Thailand Open so far. She eased past Joanne Zuger in the round of 32. Wang won the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. In the round of 16, Xinyu got the better of Mirjam Bjorklund in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The 21-year-old managed to convert 4 out of 6 break points in the match.

The 30-year-old has had to fight hard in the two matches she has played so far. Watson has done that quite well and used all her experience to get past her opponents.

Watson came back from a set down in the round of 32 against second seed Yulia Putintseva. The match was a thrilling affair as it swung from one side to the other in quick succession. The British tennis pro eventually won 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). In the round of 16, Watson defeated South Korean veteran Na-lae Han in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
