World No.1 Novak Djokovic secured a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (1) win over Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach the Italian Open semifinals on Friday.
Novak Djokovic is seeming to find his groove as the year progresses and it appears that the Serbian is finally getting back to his best. The World no. 1 flaunted his typical scrambling, wear-down-the-opponent and earn important points against Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday to beat the Canadian 7-5, 7-6 (1) in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner is still seeking his first title in 2022 but Djokovic made sure to leave spectators at the Foro Italico in awe with some incredible shots. The 21-year-old Auger-Aliassime seemed to have no answer for some of Djokovic’s returns and in the end, the gulf in class was on display for everyone to see.
It was also Djokovic’s 999th win of his career. The 34-year-old will now face Casper Ruud in the semifinals of the Italian Open.

On Twitter, several tennis fans were quick to point out that Djokovic was now only one win away from 1000 career wins. One wrote, “Djokovic with some incredible shot selection as he wins match number 999 of his career.” while another added, “OMG I just realised that Djokovic is one game away from 1000 wins. What a legend.” A third commented, “Djokovic is just adding some more gloss to his incredible CV by racking up these wins. True tennis great.”
