The answer to Newcastle’s attacking woes? This Wolves star has what it takes to ease Benitez’s woes in the final third

Newcastle United should make a move to sign Ivan Cavaleiro

As per a report by Daily Star, Newcastle United have shown a great deal of interest in the Wolves winger Ivan Cavaleiro. Rafa Benitez needs to add a speedy winger to the team to push up the campaign in the second half of the season. But the funds are unlikely to come by as owner Mike Ashley is still at the club and a take-over deal is highly unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Newcastle have lacked quality in the final third of the pitch and Rafa was in dire need of a pacy winger who could supply Salomon Rondon with enough opportunities to put pressure on the opponents.

Cavaleiro has represented the Wolves 13 times so far this season, contributing with three goals and one assist. He is a speedy winger and has shown in that he can come up with goals when needed. The wingers at Newcastle have struggled to make an impact this season and Rafa would be well served by having someone like Cavaleiro, who can bring the much-needed pace in the front third.

Wolves have priorities of their own in the transfer window. They are after another pacy Japanese winger Shoya Nakajima (h/t Daily Mail). If Newcastle can show up with the money, they would have every chance of signing the winger this time around. It would really boost their chances of a strong finish in the second half of the season.

Cavaleiro has proved himself in both the Championship and in the Premier League too. At 25, he is just about to reach his prime years. He would be a perfect fit for the Magpies since he can play up front with Rondon and Matt Richie and provide them with the pace and agility on the flanks. He can also create opportunities up front and chip in with goals of his own.

Newcastle United have been fighting at the bottom half of the table throughout this season due to lack of quality in the final third of the pitch. To that end, Cavaleiro would make the team more stable in terms of the attack and would provide them with much-needed pace.

To sell the club and earn a profit, Mike Ashley needs to provide Rafa with the funds to buy a couple of good players that can play an important role in the second half of the season. Only if they are able to survive and finish in the top half of the table with Rafa still in charge, there would be a possibility of finding a suitable buyer for the club.
