Three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka called Australian Open runner-up Dominic Thiem “The Beast” via his Twitter account.
It all started with an initial tweet from Wawrinka. The 34-year old Swiss had earlier tweeted, asking his fans and followers to suggest the kind of tutorials they would want to see. Wawrinka’s tweet read:
“What kind of training content would you guys like to see? Routines, warm ups, exercises, practice matches, mini tennis etc…?
His tweet triggered a lot of responses from the public, however, one of the replies caught the attention of Wawrinka. It was from his on-court rival, the younger, Thiem.
In response to Wawrinka’s initial tweet, Thiem had replied: “Your Backhand” as a tribute to the former’s one-handed powerful backhand which in the past has been hailed by many.
Wawrinka, who seemed to have enjoyed what Thiem tweeted, later went on to call the 26-year-old “The Beast” by replying to the Austrian’s comment.
Meanwhile, Dominic Thiem will finally get to play in his preferred clay-court surface after a magnificent run in the Australian Open.
Thiem is all set to feature at the Rio Open 2020 which will start this week in Brazil. The Austrian does not mind the quick transition from hard to clay courts and rather finds it comfortable.
“For me, it’s no problem to [play] on clay for one or two weeks and then switches back to hard courts. Coming on clay is like coming home,” Thiem said.
“I like the surface and also really like South America. It’s a completely different atmosphere. I’ve had great experiences, won here, won Buenos Aires twice, so it’s very easy for me to come back here,”
Thiem, the current World No.4 will meet play local boy Brazil’s Felipe Meligeni Alves in the first match on Tuesday.
