Manchester United Opinion: De Gea must be convinced to stay at OT
According to a recent report by The Mirror, Manchester United’s long-standing Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Ligue 1 giants PSG said to be very keen on the former Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish shot-stopper has been touted to join some of the European superpowers along the last few seasons with a lot of interest in each and every transfer window.
Paris Saint Germain will be looking for their ready-replacement for Gianluigi Buffon, who has already announced that he will be departing from the club at the end of his contract term. Despite already being 41, the Italian hasn’t hung up his boots just yet probably because he believes that he still has a lot to offer on the highest level.
De Gea would be a welcome change for fans at the Parc De Princes as he would offer a much more mobile and dynamic approach towards goalkeeping.
It has been suggested that contract talks have taken place between the Manchester United hierarchy and the Spanish goalkeeper but to no avail no far.
Although it looks like he is happy Old Trafford by his off-field body language, his reluctance to commit his future to Manchester United is saying something in itself. He has singlehandedly got United points out of lost causes, meaning that replacing him would be the biggest headache.
The Spaniard has just a year left on his United contract and unless they’re able to convince him to extend, they could be in for a worrying summer.
There has been a lot of interest in De Gea’s services from across Europe and although PSG are to be in the lead in the chase, Juventus and Real Madrid are also said to be looking at the possibility of signing the experienced shot-stopper.
De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid back in the summer of 2011. He didn’t become a fan favourite at Old Trafford the day he started his United career and instead had to work his way into the hearts of the United fans.
Eventually, his true talents began coming to light and the red Mancunians certainly looked like they liked what they saw.

Quite unorthodox in his style, the Spaniard uses his feet extremely well in pressure situations. He tends to make himself big when dealt a one-on-one and also has the presence of mind to come off his line and clear in case a defender is caught out of position.
Off late, some issue has surfaced for the Spaniard and he will be looking to put his World Cup demons behind him as well. His importance to United can’t be put into words and selling him would drop Manchester United’s reputation in the European scene.
