The Last of Us Part II Remastered Gameplay and What to Expect
A number of improved visual options will be available in The Last of Us: Part 2 Remastered, as announced by Sony on the PlayStation Blog. Fidelity Mode produces native 4K output, Performance Mode upsamples 1440p to 4K, and TVs with variable refresh rate capabilities have an unlocked framerate choice. Improved shadow quality, animation sampling rate, texture resolution, and degree of detail at wider distances are just a few of the many improvements made in the remaster.
Compared to the PS4 version, loading times in The Last of Us: Part 2 Remastered will be noticeably faster thanks to the PlayStation 5’s superior technology. As part of the remaster, the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller have been fine-tuned to provide a more immersive experience during exploration and combat, with varying degrees of stress and feedback provided by various weapons and environments.
New modes
With the remaster of The Last of Us: Part 2, two additional game modes will be available. Among these are No Return, a brand new roguelike survival mode, and the unlockable Speedrun Mode, both of which were added in the 2022 remake of The Last of Us: Part 1.
If you beat The Last of Us: Part 1 on Normal difficulty, you unlocked Speedrun Mode. It’s conceivable that you’ll be able to do the same in The Last of Us: Part 2 Remastered. Since mastering the game is essential in Speedrun Mode—the goal being to defeat it as fast as possible as a timer ticks away in the corner—this makes perfect sense.
However, No Return, the roguelike survival mode, is an entirely new installment in the series. Planned runs for supplies and rewards are a part of No Return, as are random encounters with opponents that change up the battle experience.
Many playable characters are available in No Return, including those that have never appeared in any of the previous games in the series. Each character has its own special abilities. Currently, seven playable characters have been announced for No Return, with the possibility of additional unlockable or post-launch characters:
- Abby Anderson
- Ellie
- Tommy
- Dina
- Jesse
- Lev
- Mel
Guitar Free Play
In The Last of Us Part 2, Ellie has the opportunity to play the guitar that Joel gave her at certain points in the tale, among other places in the game environment. Upon acquiring a guitar, players are prompted to play a predetermined tune in a minigame. All they have to do is tap the screen to match the notes with the song’s progression. Once they’ve mastered the tune, guitarists will have more freedom to practice.
Even while there are certain instances, such Ellie being able to play Dina an acoustic rendition of Aha’s Take On Me, the concept quickly gained popularity as players with better musical knowledge found ways to play other songs with it. In response to this demand, developer Naughty Dog has added a Guitar Free Play option.
You can play as different people in different in-game locales to modify the atmosphere and mood while playing a given kind of music in this new mode. This comes with a variety of unlockable guitars and uses audio FX pedals to modulate a performance.
New content
There will be a ton of new things in The Last of Us: Part 2 Remastered, not to mention these new gameplay types. “Lost Levels” is one such collection; it has three playable levels—”Boar Hunt,” “Jackson Party,” and “Sewers”—that were removed during the early stages of development.
Although these levels are far from complete, they do show some of the concepts that were considered early on for the game’s universe. Embedded developer commentary provides more information and discusses the rationale behind each level’s components in these levels.
How to upgrade?
If you bought The Last of Us Part II, you can upgrade to The Last of Us Part II Remastered for an extra price. Beginning with launch day on January 19, 2024, the PlayStation Store will have the upgrade and local upgrade cost accessible.
If your PlayStation 5 has a disc drive, you can upgrade your PS4 copy of The Last of Us: Part II to the disc version. Every time you wish to download or play the digital version on your PS5, you’ll need to input your PS4 disc copy.
