NBA great Shaquille O’Neal has waxed lyrical on Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry for winning his 4th title.
Even though it’s the NBA offseason, we can still have spirited discussions and divisive disputes. Shaquille O’Neal, a former Los Angeles Lakers legend, most certainly did with his most recent remarks.
Who is the world’s best player?
We seem to have this discussion practically every month, and it has recently come up again as a result of Shaquille O’Neal expressing his view on who he believes to be the best player in the league.
The Hall of Fame center claimed he believes that Warriors Finals MVP Steph Curry was “by far” the finest player in the entire world while speaking on his podcast, “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” which he co-hosts with Nischelle Turner, Spice Adams, and “Inside the NBA” co-host Kenny Smith.
“The championships you have shown who the genuine ones are,” O’Neal added.
“Steph Curry is the best player in the world. He can take and make difficult shots. I enjoy the direction his career has taken. I enjoy ‘Rocky’-style fiction. Not many people sought out Steph for employment. He deserves my respect for being able to work so hard while also being the top shooter and one of the best players in the league. I love that kid.”
LeBron James has always seemed to be the undisputed best player in the world, and given how good he still is at the age of 37, it’s strange that he is not cited as the best player in the world.
Whether or not you concur with O’Neal’s decision, it’s intriguing to hear the reasoning behind it.
O’Neal has stressed winning as a criterion, even though some might choose a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Bucks, who also has a championship and a Finals MVP on his resume, or two-time MVP Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets, who can apparently do it all on the court. Curry has climbed to the top of O’Neal’s list after winning his first Finals MVP award and fourth NBA championship.
We now know who Shaq believes will win the league again the next season, We suppose.
