Neymar became the world’s most expensive player after joining Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017 but now, he’s looking for an exit and Chelsea and Liverpool are the latest to join the race, according to the Sun.
He has become a fundamental player for PSG and his partnership with Kylian Mbappe is top-class. However, he could leave the French giants in the near future, as per Sun.
The PSG star has struggled with injuries over the past two years, seeing his stock fall in the process. But on his day, the Samba star is up there with the very best players in the world. Liverpool already have a strong attack, with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all enjoying positive campaigns.
Liverpool didn’t spend much in the summer but if they do sign Neymar, he would be in direct competition with Sadio Mane, who has enjoyed a stunning 12 months. However, as per France Football (h/t The Guardian), PSG are interested in his services.
If the Senegalese star goes the other way, Neymar would slot straight into the left-wing position. With a front three of Firmino, Salah and Neymar – along with pillars at the back in the form of Alisson and Van Dijk – Liverpool would be capable of being the deadliest team in Europe.
That said, another option for the Brazilian is to join international teammate Willian at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s transfer ban has been lifted, thereby allowing them to purchase players in the January window.
Lampard must strengthen his young squad which has performed admirably this season. Although securing Neymar won’t be easy, Chelsea, in the past, have shown that they can pull off massive transfer heists. They have failed to replace Eden Hazard, who joined Real Madrid last summer.
Signing Neymar would be a showcase of intent from the London club, who are also battling it out in the Champions League. With Pulisic failing to set the league on fire, in Tammy Abraham, they have a prolific striker who has shown that he can make it count in the English top tier.
If they sign Neymar as well, Chelsea would be in a position to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
A move to Anfield might tempt Neymar, given Liverpool’s surge under Klopp and their domination in Europe. But he could again be in the shadow of Mo Salah, who is already a legend at the club.
A move to London would be a better option for the Brazilian as Chelsea currently lack a superstar in the team and he perfectly fits the bill. With Lampard’s willingness to play youngsters, it would be the perfect destination for Neymar, who has found life tough in Paris.
