Liverpool Opinion: This summer is the right time to offload Milner
According to a recent report by The Metro, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are said to be considering adding to their midfield depth in the coming transfer window.
Despite the massive wealth of footballing talent they boast, their ineffectiveness in Europe has triggered the chiefs at PSG and they’re looking to add solidity in the midfield.
It has been suggested that Napoli’s midfield destroyer Allan as well Manchester United contract-rebel Ander Herrera are both close to move to the French capital.
While these two would certainly add a lot of dynamism to the midfield, it is their apparent interest in Liverpool’s 33-year-old English star James Milner that’s coming under question.
Liverpool have had an absolute gem of a season under Jurgen Klopp this time around and despite just losing out to Manchester City in the title race, they now have a chance to claim the European throne.
While Tottenham Hotspur stand in their way, a win for Liverpool would seem them label this season the most successful one of the last decade.
One of the main reasons for Liverpool’s dominance in England has been the midfield.
The core of the team is formed by James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho while Naby Keita has been a utility player so far, having been used in some matches based on the style of football the opposition plays.
Removing James Milner from that list of names doesn’t have quite the impact it would at one of the smaller teams and considering that he’s already 33, a sale looks to be the best option for the Reds.
Although he’s been a loyal servant for a few years now, his performance levels haven’t dropped and that will add to the motivation behind PSG’s move.
The Englishman has featured in 33 league games this season and he’s scored some key goals along the way as well.
Having notched up 5 in total through the league campaign and a further 5 assists, he has proven that you don’t necessarily have to be young to be effective in what is arguably the most adaptive league in the world.

He has the ability to perform in difficult situations and can even be utilised across various positions on the pitch. Often seen playing at wing-back and sometimes in central-midfield, the veteran Englishman has the experience and footballing intelligence to help PSG in their hunt for European glory.
His age shouldn’t deter the Parisians’ cause as he’s proven this season that he’s still got it in him which makes this a match made in heaven.
