The plot

Charlie’s ex-wife Mary shows up to reprimand him for going against Ellie’s wishes. Thomas makes another attempt to persuade Charlie, but Charlie rudely rejects him. Ellie chastises Charlie for altering the essay he promised to write for her in the dying hours of his life. Charlie admits that he utilised the essay Ellie wrote on Moby-Dick when she was eight years old.
Charlie approaches Ellie as she is reading the essay, and a white light surrounds them both. The final image depicts a younger Charlie and a young Ellie playing on the beach. The audience must decide if Charlie is experiencing his favourite memory from just before he passed away or if he is in the hereafter.
