Three Premier League clubs who would be wise to sign Emanuel Adebayor

As per reports from The Sun, Emanuel Adebayor could make a return to English football after walking out on Turkish club Kayserispor.

Adebayor already has a host of Premier League experience, having represented Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Crystal Palace in England’s top flight.

The ex-Arsenal striker spent 11 years in England but the 35-year-old joined Kayserispor in August, following a spell with their Super Lig rivals Istanbul Basaksehir, but has now quit in the wake of the bottom-placed club’s financial problems (h/t The Sun).

In his prime, Adebayor was borderline unplayable and boasts a superb Premier League goalscoring record. He has 97 strikes to his name, also laying on 44 assists in 242 top-flight appearances.

And, in the ongoing season, many teams have found it difficult to score and they could use the services of the experienced striker. That said, here are 3 clubs who could use his services.

Watford

Bottom-placed Watford have netted as few as 9 goals in 15 games and are rooted to the bottom of the table. Troy Deeney’s injury and Andre Gray’s form have not helped them either. Already looking for their third manager of the season, Watford would welcome the services of Adebayor, who has served top clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United lost two of their main goal-scorers in summer. While Salomon Rondon departed along with Rafa Benitez, Leicester poached Ayoze Perez in a matter of days. The Magpies did manage to sign Saint-Maximin to provide support to record signing Joelinton but they have struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

Under Steve Bruce, Newcastle have generally opted to sit back and defend deep and then play on the counter. Some of their best pieces of football have come from counter-attacks. With the pace of Jetro Willems and DeAndre Yedlin on the flanks, Emanuel Adebayor would prove to be a lethal weapon for Newcastle. He would also provide competition to the injury-prone Andy Carroll, who made a return to St. James’ Park after a spell at West Ham.

Tottenham Hotspur

Another ideal destination for Adebayor would be North London. After appointing Jose Mourinho as the new manager, Spurs are back to winning games which had not been the case under ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Having lost Fernando Llorente to Napoli for free, Harry Kane remains the only out-and-out striker at the club. Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura can efficiently do the job upfront but Mourinho must look for a backup striker and Adebayor fits the bill. After all, he had signed Adebayor at Real Madrid after the striker fell out of favour at Manchester City.

Verdict

While many clubs could have a go at Adebayor, Watford would be well advised to sign the Togolese striker as they have found it extremely difficult to score goals. He is capable of revitalizing the team in their quest for avoiding relegation and staying up in the Premier League.
