Three players with no future at West Ham United
West Ham United need to add to their squad during the January transfer window, and with seven days already over, time is not on their side. However, to do that first, the Hammers will have to clear some space in their squad after wrapping up a deal for Samir Nasri.
The rumour mill has been buzzing and there seem to be a few outgoing stars as well. The likes of Marko Arnartovic, Reece Oxford and a few others have been linked with moves away. While there is little chance of West Ham selling their top players, there are a few who have no future.
#3 Reece Oxford
Still only 20, Reece Oxford will definitely have suitors if he decides to leave or if West Ham want to sell him. The Hammers are interested in letting their youth product go, with the Mirror indicating that Arsenal and even Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in a move for Oxford.
A highly rated centre-back, Oxford made his Premier League debut for the club under Slaven Bilic back in 2015 against Arsenal. His performance against the Gunners called for comparisons to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, with many believing that the 16-year-old had everything he needed to become great.
Things haven’t gone according to plan since then, and now four years on, Oxford’s career at the Olympic Stadium could be ending after multiple un-impressive loan spells.
#2 Pedro Obiang
A central midfielder by trade, Obiang’s performances of late combined with a few injuries have led to the 26-year-old being benched by manager Manuel Pellegrini. Now, with Declan Rice’s emergence, and the addition of Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere, it looks like Pellegrini has the necessary tools to replace Obiang.
While his presence will be crucial until Jack Wilshere returns, Obiang still remains a man on the fringes of a team that clearly doesn’t want him. A mere 13 appearances so far this season has been a drop from the 27 appearances he made last season. Not to mention, that his contribution has reduced, further proving his drop in form.
While there have been no rumours or reports linking Obiang with a move away, it’s only a matter of time before the 26-year-old leaves.
#1 Andy Caroll
The former Liverpool striker has had a tough career so far, largely due to a catalogue of injuries that Carrol has suffered over the years. Now 30, things aren’t going better for him at West Ham, where he has only just managed to make a comeback after spending nearly half a year out injured.
He did score a goal on his return and the Englishman’s goal-scoring abilities were never in doubt; just his ability to stay fit. His struggles at Liverpool were well noted but since then, spells at Newcastle, Preston North End and now West Ham have proven that Carroll can score goals when required but his ability to get injured will continue haunting him.
With the return of Marko Arnartovic from injury, Javier Hernandez’s presence and the addition of a few more stars, there is no place at West Ham for Andy Carroll. If he can stay fit, the 30-year-old could find his future elsewhere.
