Chelsea Opinion: Two ideal summer destinations for Gary Cahill
Gary Cahill is a seasoned veteran of the English game and has bags of experience under his belt, having spent multiple years in the Premier League. He started out with Bolton Wanderers before moving onto his real glory days at Stamford Bridge playing for a strong and developing Chelsea side.
He was a part of the Chelsea XI that went to Munich and did the unthinkable by beating Bayern Munich in their own backyard in the final of the UEFA Champions League final. With the red card to John Terry in the 2nd leg of the semifinal, a large responsibility was placed on the English centre-half.
He started that game in Munich and has since become a legend at Chelsea. Often likened to John Terry for his style of play and dominating nature in the box, he is still the club captain of Chelsea even though Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta keeps the armband whenever on the pitch.
With Cahill now 33, he is definitely heading into the latter stages of his career. Being a player who has won 2 Premier League trophies and a Champions League during his time at the club, he certainly still has the quality and potential to represent any of the English clubs that could do with his services.
Here are the 2 two clubs where he could slot right in:
Bournemouth
Eddie Howe’s Cherries side has been one of the surprise packages of the Premier League this season and with exceptional talents like Ryan Fraser and David Brooks now available in their ranks, some defensive cover will make them a more complete side.
They currently have 4 recognised centre-halves within their ranks and out of the 4, the new signing is a 21-year-old from Brentford. Jack Simpson, another one of their young centre-backs, is also 21 and in the Premier League, a defence like that can hurt a side pretty badly.
Gary Cahill will be the perfect addition for Eddie Howe as the Englishman’s experience and composure on the ball will be a huge boost for the Cherries. His defensive leadership will also strengthen the Cherries’ set-up and given their wealth of attack talent, this signing could help them showcase their true potential.
Everton
The Toffees are another club who could use the seasoned professional’s services in the upcoming season given that they are also quite shorthanded defensively. They did manage to bring in some top attacking talents in the summer transfer window and some defensive reinforcements will certainly help this side.

Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka and Yerry Mina are their current defensive options while Chelsea loanee Kurt Zouma is another alternative. With Jagielka now 36 and Zouma set to return to London at the end of the season, the addition of Gary Cahill would certainly be a welcome signing for Marco Silva.
