The 2023 Australian Open begins next week, and tennis fans are all in readiness to watch the greatest players on the circuit compete in the first major of the year.
Ashleigh Barty, who won the women’s singles event in 2022 is now retired. The likes of Iga Swiatek, Caroline Garcia, Ons Jabeur, and Aryna Sabalenka are amongst the favorites to win the tournament this year.
We have seen many players punching above their weight in the past few editions of the Grand Slam. There is no reason why we can’t have an underdog winning the title this time.
To build some more excitement ahead of the event, the official Facebook account of the Tennis Channel posted a photo of all the winners of the women’s singles events in the past few years. They started from 2013 when Victoria Azarenka edged past Li Na to win her second Australian Open title in 2 years.
In the following year, Li Na managed to pass the final hurdle and win her second Grand Slam title. Tennis Channel made an error and used a photo of Ann Li instead of Li Na. Eagle-eyed fans did not miss the mishap and posted some hilarious comments regarding the same.
Fans’ reactions
Some fans were frustrated while others dropped sarcastic comments after the error from the Tennis Channel. Let’s take a look at some of the reactions from tennis fans on Reddit.
