Vincent Janssen could have helped Cardiff City survive in the Premier League
The Sun had revealed that Cardiff City had entered the race alongside Real Betis for Tottenham star Vincent Janssen after it was made clear that the Dutchman has no future at White Hart Lane. Sky Sports further revealed that the La Liga side was talking along the lines of a loan move for the 24-year-old striker, with an option to buy at the end of the loan spell.
However, for Cardiff City after Emiliano Sala’s sad tragedy, the Bluebirds needed a new striker and believed that the Dutchman could be their answer. Janssen hasn’t had the best time in the Premier League, struggling to make an impact for Tottenham.
The Dutchman joined the North London side back in 2016 and has made a very few appearances, and is yet to play this season. For Cardiff City, a move for the 24-year-old would have meant a long-term solution to their issues up-front. Jansson’s abilities does make him a rather valuable buy at what could have been a fee of around £15million.
His propensity on the ball, combined with his hold-up play does make him a great option. The Dutchman is what many call – a poacher. The 24-year-old does his best work inside the box and is also a very reliable penalty taker.
However, the move held up amid concerns as to whether he can keep himself fit, but the former AZ Alkmaar star has shown that he can, despite the fact that he has played football at the U-23 level this season.
Given their issues up front, Cardiff City could have made a great signing by getting Jansson. They are currently sitting in 18th position in the table and are four points from safety. To overcome that bridge, they needed a bonafide goal-scorer.
Their three main centre-forwards have scored just one goal between them. For that reason, manager Neil Warnock turned towards midfielder Callum Paterson and the 24-year-old hasn’t disappointed so far, scoring four goals.
However, even Paterson’s goals have dried up and while Oumar Niasse has been brought in on loan, the Senegalese has struggled during his time in the Premier League so far. On the other hand, Vincent Janssen has shown that if given time and faith, the 24-year-old will score goals consistently and could have helped the Bluebirds stay in top-flight football for one more year.
