Premier League Opinion: 2 PL destinations for Donny Van De Beek
According to a recent report by The Sun, Premier League giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both said to be keen on the signing Ajax midfield star Donny Van De Beek this summer, as they look to strengthen their respective claims for the league title.
It has been suggested that the youngster has expressed his interest to play in England and although many clubs would be interested in his services, it seems like United and Spurs are in the driving seat at this moment.
The 22-year-old was a vital part of what was an exemplary group of players that Ajax brought together last season. Having won the Eredivisie last year, they were literally seconds away from a dream Champions League final against Liverpool but thanks to some heroics from Tottenham star Lucas Moura, it wasn’t to be their night.
The youngster’s numbers from the last term further strengthen his case as he managed to notch up 16 goals and 12 assists from 47 games for the club last season.
The youngster is a product of the Ajax youth academy and has been at the club all the way since the summer of 2008. He made his national debut for Netherlands in 2017 and has since gone on to make a further 4 appearances.
Although he is yet to open his scoring account on the international stage, it seems only a matter of time consider the rate at which he seems to be developing. The control and composure he offers in the middle of the park will be huge for any side that’s able to lure him in.
Here are the two Premier League clubs said to be keen on the youngster:
Manchester United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over a Manchester United side that was in complete shambles and although he did manage to turn things around, it turned out to be fairly short-lived and things turned sour again quite fast.
The addition of a strong and controlling midfielder like Van De Beek could be his answer to unleashing the true powers of Paul Pogba. Often having to rely on the Frenchman for creativity, United relieving some of the pressure off Pogba’s shoulders by signing the Dutchman will be a massive boost.

Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur became the first team in Premier League history to start a new season without a single new addition to the side last year. Over the course of the campaign, they suffered heavily for this grave mistake and considering that Moussa Dembele was sold in January too, the need for reinforcements is quite clear to see.
Van De Beek has the first-hand experience about the quality that Spurs possess and that could go a long way in aiding Mauricio Pochettino’s hunt for the Dutchman’s signature.
