Why Steven Gerrard should raid Liverpool to bring Dominic Solanke to Rangers

There is no denying that Liverpool’s attacker Dominic Solanke has struggled to get minutes at Anfield this season. Solanke has been limited to the Premier 2 and international U21 matches. After struggling to score last season, the youngster has fallen down Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order.

Signed from Chelsea last summer, Solanke managed just a goal and an assist in 21 Premier League games. He is yet to feature for the Reds this term and needs minutes for his own progress. A loan move away would help resuscitate his flailing career.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard could be planning to raid his former club this January. The Gers are in pole position to sign the 21-year-old ahead of Premier League side Crystal Palace (h/t The Scottish Sun).

Dominic Solanke would be the ideal replacement for Umar Sadiq at the Ibrox. The 21-year-old Nigeria international striker is expected to return to his parent club AS Roma in the January transfer window (h/t The Scottish Sun).

Rangers are hot on the heels of Celtic in the Scottish Premier League. The Gers still have a decent chance of progressing out of their Europa League group as well. Brought in to end bitter Glasgow rivals Celtic’s domestic dominance, Gerrard has done an impressive job so far in his first season of senior management.

No team in the league has scored more goals than Rangers. The Ibrox side has put 35 goals past their opponents in 13 games, which is 5 more than what Celtic have managed in 13 games. Rangers sit 2nd on the table with 27 points, just 2 points off leaders Celtic.

While Solanke is yet to prove himself in the Premier League, he could offer a lot north of the border with his intelligent movement and hold-up play. A good dribbler who has the pace to burn, Dominic Solanke is a threat during counter attacks.

The England U21 international is also a threat in indirect set-piece situations.  Under the legendary Gerrard, Solanke could benefit from regular football. He could be tasked with leading Rangers’ line alongside the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty.
