Can Leandro Trossard make any impact at Arsenal next season?
The Daily Star has reported that Arsenal have joined the race for KRC Genk star Leandro Trossard, as the North London side look to add pace and wide to their front-line. He is rated around £22m by the Belgian club.
Trossard, 24, has been in excellent form this season for the Belgian side and his rise strikes comparison with Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey, who used to play for Genk before.
So far in this season alone, the Belgian has 17 goals, which include seven in nine Europa League games. While the club did fail to progress any further, his performances were brought to Arsenal and former head scout Sven Mislintat’s attention, with the latter shortlisting him as one of their top January targets. However, no move materialised, thanks to Arsenal’s transfer budget issues in January. However, the Daily Star has reiterated that Unai Emery is still interested in the player.
That doesn’t come as a surprise, given the 24-year-old’s skill-set, which is something that the North London side desperately needs. If nothing else, Trossard is a direct and rapid winger who loves getting into attacking positions.
The Genk forward puts his pace and agility to great use offensively, which may remind many Arsenal fans of Alexis Sanchez. However, unlike Sanchez, Trossard hasn’t been tested at a higher level, that could prove to be his downfall. But if any move does occur, then the possibility is that the 24-year-old Belgian star could flourish.
Genk have the tendency of producing some great talents over the past few years, and Trossard could be one of them very soon.
One of the top football clubs in Belgian football – they have seen the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Yannick Carrasco, Christian Benteke, Thibaut Courtois and many others flourish after leaving. The past is on his and Arsenal’s condition at the moment is that they need an attack-minded winger who can cause defence problems down either side.
Only Alex Iwobi is the out-and-out-winger in their squad. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have also been used there, but it is pretty evident they are more lethal centrally.
Hence, the club needs to make sure that they get Trossard over the line at any cost in the summer window. Backing Unai Emery in transfer windows is the only way the club can progress on the field.
