Rodrigo De Paul, 24, has been one of the rare bright sparks in what has been a miserable season in the Serie A. The club is battling against relegation at the moment and despite the Italian outfit’s consistent poor form, the 24-year-old winger is coming to end of his best season of his career so far.

The Argentine has scored nine goals and supplied four assists in 34 Serie A games. His dazzling individual displays have caught the attention of Tottenham, who must surely make a move for him in the summer transfer window.

Spurs are in the semi-finals of the Champions League and are looking to get into the competition’s grand finale. What Mauricio Pochettino has done so far has been no less than remarkable, considering the Argentinean manager has been operating on a tight budget since arriving in north London.

However, Tottenham failing to sign a single player over the last two transfer windows have cost them dearly, especially with a lot of their existing members spending their time on the treatment table. Pochettino simply cannot afford to make the same mistake again and he has to beef up his squad to genuinely challenge for the Premier League title next campaign.

Thus, adding someone like Rodrigo De Paul would certainly be a step in the right direction for the north London outfit.

Spurs have been heavily dependent on Son Heung-min and Harry Kane this season. Kane has delivered the goods once again, but he has suffered injury problems that have hampered the rhythm of the team. While Son has been exceptional, Spurs are in dire need of freshness and energy to their attack and De Paul can provide it next season.

A left winger by trade, De Paul has shown his versatility this season by playing in various positions across the midfield and the attack. The Argentine possesses solid pace and skill on the ball which he uses to bamboozles his opponents. He is a creative player too, known for carving open defences with one incisive pass in the final third of the pitch.

The former Valencia youngster has the fantastic ability to glide through the midfield into an attacking area as well as drop back during transition. Due to his pace, dribbling skills and direct play, De Paul will also be one of the counter-attacking outlets for Spurs.

Verdict

One cannot neglect De Paul’s consistent performances in an underperforming Udinese side this season. It shows just how talented the 24-year-old is and why a move to Tottenham would be absolutely perfect.
