West Ham Opinion: Why Nathaniel Clyne will be a top signing for West Ham?
According to a report from the Daily Star, Liverpool will offload defender Nathaniel Clyne in the summer transfer window, with West Ham and Bournemouth interested in the player.
Nathaniel Clyne, 28, joined Bournemouth on loan from Liverpool in January after recovering from back injury problems. The Englishman impressed sufficiently during his 14 league appearances at the Vitality Stadium under Eddie Howe.
Now that Jurgen Klopp wants to get the right-back off the Reds’ books, West Ham should beat Bournemouth to Clyne’s signature.
West Ham finished in 10th place this past season, and there are hopes that they will be able to challenge to push further up the table next term. That’ll only be possible if the Hammers get their recruitment spot on this summer.
Manuel Pellegrini will not be disappointed with a tenth-placed finish after how the season started for the Londoners. The Chilean has a very experienced squad at his disposal which needs few tinkering over the summer to challenge for top seven.
There are few areas that Pellegrini should address ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. One of them is the right-back position, which Ryan Fredericks made his own with a strong finish to the season. That could see Fredericks start the next term as Pellegrini’s first choice at right-back.
Pablo Zabaleta has penned a new one-year deal recently at West Ham, but he is 34 and coming to end of his career. But the Argentinean is not expected to play for the Hammers with any regularity next season as Fredericks has nailed down his place in the team.
Even though the club has handed a one-year extension to Zabaleta, Pellegrini must not rely on the ageing defender and quickly bring in Clyne.
Although he has struggled to stay fit and steer clear of injuries in the last couple of seasons, Clyne is still a talented right-back. He is experienced and at 28, the defender still has a lot left in his tank to offer at the highest level. The England international showed at Bournemouth in the second half of the past season that he can perform consistently if backed and given chances regularly.

Truly, Clyne would certainly add much-needed quality to Pellegrini’s defensive ranks, whilst bring competition to Fredericks and Zabaleta. He will potentially be deemed as an upgrade on Zabaleta and should push Fredericks for a place in the starting XI.
Verdict
An experienced and tenacious customer, West Ham would have a really solid player in their ranks if they manage to sign Clyne from Liverpool.
