According to a report from the Marca, James Rodriguez and Bayern Munich have decided to part ways at the end of the season and the player will return to Real Madrid.
The Colombian playmaker, 27, signed for Madrid in the summer of 2014, but he was deemed surplus to requirements by coach Zinedine Zidane in 2017. That resulted in Madrid loaning out James Rodriguez in 2017 to Bayern, where the 27-year-old has had some highs and lows, along with a string of injuries.
The report claims Madrid will listen to offers for the Colombian, who has a contract at Santiago Bernabeu until the summer of 2021.
Now the Express claim that Manchester United are set to battle Chelsea for James Rodriguez in the summer, as Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane doesn’t see him in his plans next season and has put a price tag of £36million on his head.
That being said, Manchester United should beat Chelsea to the signature of James in the summer.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is planning a significant overhaul of his squad over the summer. The Norwegian tactician is keen to shake up his attacking force, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial misfiring since the last month or so.
The Red Devils need an injection of creativity and guile which Alexis Sanchez has failed to provide since arriving at Old Trafford from Arsenal last year. Paul Pogba started off brilliantly under Solskjaer, but his form has tailed off in recent weeks, while Juan Mata has been in and out of the team.
A player like James Rodriguez could be the missing link that connects the midfield to United’s attack. The Colombian international is a classy operator of the ball, capable of splitting open defences with his crafty passing and incisive through balls. His abilities lie in his passing and awareness, and he could flourish into a refined style of play Solskjaer is trying to build at United.
Solskjaer is keen to introduce fresh faces into the squad at the end of the season and kick-start a new era at United with a dynamic, young side who are capable of ripping apart teams in the Premier League. James would be the perfect fit and his signing shouldn’t be ignored.
However, United’s failure to secure Champions League football for next season could prove to be a stumbling block.

Yet, the Red Devils should try their level best to sign James, who needs a new surrounding to revive his career.
