Why Aboubakar Kamara could have helped West Brom get back to the PL
Sky Sports had revealed that West Bromwich Albion was interested in a move for Fulham striker Aboubakar Kamara, with the latter looking to let go of the 23-year-old. Despite doing relatively well last season, the Frenchman has struggled to make an impact this season and has instead picked fights with fellow forward Aleksandar Mitrovic. He even got arrested on the training ground after a bust-up.
This combined with the fact that manager Claudio Ranieri was unhappy with the 23-year-old’s behaviour led to a flurry of transfer reports. Kamara has been linked with a move to Turkey, and West Brom. He eventually joins a Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor on loan.
However, for the promotion-chasing Baggies, the speedy 23-year-old could have been just the man they needed leading the line.
So far both Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez have been in excellent form for Darren Moore’s men, with the two forwards producing 37 goals between them, but that hasn’t been enough. Harvey Barnes, who is now back with his parent club Leicester, comes closest with 9 goals and seven assists. Matt Phillips a close-fourth with 5 goals and 6 assists.
They’ve been scoring goals at a consistent rate, but need more competition in the team, along with a few new defenders.
Gayle and Rodriguez are 28 and 29 years old respectively, and thus not getting younger. Furthermore, the fact that manager Darren Moore’s only other options as strikers are Hal Robson-Kanu and young Jonathan Leko, would have made the deal for Aboubakar Kamara a great option. While the 23-year-old might have taken some time to readjust to the Championship, but in all likelihood, the chances of him flourishing was on the higher side.
History shows that if nothing else, Kamara can run and score goals, with him producing 9 goals last season for Fulham in the Championship, but more so making himself an absolute menace to defenders in every game. Whether coming off the bench or as a starter, the 23-year-old could have been a great asset for the Baggies, but only if the loan-move had gone through.

However, given his attitude problems, Moore would have had to learn how to tame the beast and getting the best out of the striker, but that shouldn’t be too hard for a manager who knows what he is doing. If the move had gone through, then it would essentially be a new start for the young Frenchman and maybe for both sides, it could have been the start of a great new relationship.
