Leeds United Opinion: Felipe Pires can restart his career at Elland Road
Leeds United’s season has certainly been a mixed bag of emotions for Whites’ fans because of the inconsistency that this side has shown along the course of the season. Despite the able guidance of Marcelo Bielsa, everything hasn’t gone quite to plan at Elland Road.
While they can be ruthless and absolutely walk over teams when they’re up for it, there are certain games where the Whites just seem to not turn up – games where the fans are forced to sit through 90 minutes of start-stop action only for them to get the drop points at the end.
Although there have been occasions where this has occurred, overall, compared their efforts from last season, the improvement has been Herculean. This turnaround has placed them in line to make yet another step up to the Premier League next season.
Currently fighting it out with Norwich City at the top, Leeds will still be hopeful of winning the Championship while a 2nd-place finish is probably the minimum that the fans are willing to take, considering the season they’ve had.
One of the players who has really stepped up to the plate this season for the Whites is veteran winger Pablo Hernandez. The Spaniard has been in inspired form all season and he even scored 2 goals in their most recent 3-0 win against Reading.
But considering that the former Valencia and Swansea man is now 33 and the fact that the other option in Jack Clarke who is 18, the need for additional wingers is higher than ever. With Jack Harrison set to return to Manchester City at the end of the term as well, it will become a necessity.
With Premier League football on the horizon at Elland Road next season, they should be looking to efficiently work the transfer market at the end of the season. If there’s one player they should consider, it’s Brazilian winger Felipe Pires.
The 23-year-old currently plays for Palmeiras in the Brazilian league on loan from parent club Hoffenheim, where he has been since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in 2015. The prodigious youngster is yet to make an appearance for his parent Bundesliga club.
This could be enough motivation for him to consider trying to utilise his abilities elsewhere and considering that he is a very direct and pacy winger, Leeds United could be the perfect platform for him to really make a name for himself.

Supremely tricky on the ball, his pace and running power are unmatched while he also has the stamina to consistently deliver for the entirety of 90 minutes. His goals at Leipzig and Austria Vienna indicate his quality and his career could get rejuvenated if Leeds United are able to sign the forgotten Brazilian star.
