Why Tottenham signing Max Aarons would be a brilliant move

Tottenham Hotspur are linked with signing Norwich City youngster Max Aarons, according to Daily Mail (h/t Express).

Aarons has featured 21 times for Daniel Farke’s side in all competitions on the Canaries’ return to the Premier League. Norwich are struggling at the foot of the table but Aarons has continued to deliver with his performances.

The relegation-threatened outfit rely heavily on Aarons, who was a fundamental part of their Championship-winning side last year. The same can be said in the Premier League as well, with the 20-year-old playing full 90 minutes in 20 out of 22 games so far.

The right-back position has become a problem for Spurs, who have struggled to fill the role since Kyle Walker left for Manchester City and while Kieran Trippier had an influential stint, he has also exited the club. Kyle Walker-Peters held a place in the starting XI for a while but he is too inexperienced to start regularly.

Meanwhile, Serge Aurier had fallen down the pecking order over the years but he has been a regular starter for Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho has used Aurier at right-back in the league games so far. Interestingly enough, Aarons, in his debut top-flight campaign, statistically matches the Ivorian in several areas. Stats show that the youngster has a better pass success percentage than Aurier (79% compared to the Ivorian’s 78.2%).

Aarons has also averaged more blocks per game (0.9 as compared to Aurier’s 0.2) with fewer fouls conceded (0.9 – 1.1). He isn’t dribbled past as often as Aurier either (0.5 when compared to the Tottenham star’s 1.1).

Having been capped at both U19 and U21 level by England, Aarons is capable of being a solid addition to help solve Tottenham’s right-back conundrum.

Verdict

Tottenham can’t afford to miss out on the chance to sign him and the club must go all out to bag his signature before the transfer window slams shut.
