West Ham United would do well by signing Miranda from Inter Milan
According to Football Italia, West Ham United are interested in Inter Milan defender Miranda but face strong competition from the Italian giants Roma, who have also shown firm interest in the player. The report further states that Roma want the defender on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy.
The 34-year-old has been faced with a lack of game time at Inter and needs to leave for regular game time elsewhere. Teams from Brazil and China have also shown interest in the player but the central defender prefers to stay in Europe and is looking at a suitable destination (h/t Football Italia).
The Brazilian has become the third choice at Inter after the arrival of Stefan De Vrij in the summer. He is under contract until the summer of 2020 but the Nerazzurri should cash in on the player to get a good value.
Pellegrini is in dire need of adding a central defender to his squad to provide defensive solidity. West Ham have a promising attacking line and a hardworking midfield but their defence has been sloppy. Adding an experienced defender like Miranda can prove to be a masterstroke for the Hammers in their pursuit of a higher finish in the Premier League.
Despite being 34, Miranda still has a lot of football left in him and could prove to be a crucial signing for a team like West Ham. Furthermore, with De Vrij established firmly at Inter, it is high time for the Italians to let the veteran defender leave.
Since Pellegrini took charge at West Ham, he has been backed up with the funds and the former Manchester City coach spent quite a bit in the summer. Hammers showed their intent in the form of summer signings and after initial struggles, the spending has proven to be effective and the team has shown the character and will to compete for European football.
Acquiring Miranda would provide Pellegrini with more options at the back and given his experience, it could prove to be a smart move by the London club. He can help in providing stability at the back – which is something West Ham have lacked for a while now.
Moreover, the Hammers lack a leader at the back and to that end, Miranda would be an excellent choice.
